A key figure in the Dutch Art Nouveau movement, Jacob Gerard Veldheer worked as a wood engraver. He printed a variety of village scenes like this one—intimate and packed with whorls of clouds, gnarled trees and vines, and intricately cobblestoned streets.

This work was featured in the Driehaus Museum’s 2020-2022 exhibition, PAN: Prints of the Avant-Garde Europe 1895-1900.
