Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen showed his affection for cats by making them the prominent subject of some of his most famous works. In his 1896 advertisement for Le Chat Noir, the first modern cabaret, he transformed a mischievous black cat out on the prowl into one of art history's most recognizable felines.
