Blast Furnace by Maximilien Luce

Blast Furnace by Maximilien Luce

Regular price $25.00 Sale

Born in Paris to a working-class family, Maximilien Luce mastered the Impressionist painting style that swept his city in the late 1800s—but with his own personal twist. While the Impressionists often showed Parisians at leisure, political and passionate Luce also showed factory workers, wharves, and other working-class subjects, such as this coal-fired blast furnace in an industrial area, possibly Charleroi in Belgium.

This work was featured in the Driehaus Museum’s 2020-2022 exhibition, PAN: Prints of the Avant-Garde Europe 1895-1900.
