In this advertisement for Saxoléine paraffin oil, a fashionable and alluring woman lights her lamp at home. This is one particularly arresting and colorful version of several different scenes Chéret produced for the same company. Paris still relied on paraffin oil to light homes and streets at the end of the nineteenth century.
