Chicago designer Emma Lewis of The Twentieth Decorative Arts reimagines the Museum’s Maher Gallery's glass mosaic fire surround and stained-glass dome in a gift card set featuring heavy-weight card stock and pearlescent envelopes.
In 1901, as the Nickerson Mansion changed hands, Prairie School architect George Washington Maher (1864-1926) was hired to redesign a room that was once the Nickerson’s art gallery into a den. The outcome is what we now call the Maher Gallery, which features a magnificent stained-glass dome, attributed to the Chicago firm Gianinni and Hilgart (est. 1899), and a monumental fireplace with iridescent tiles arranged in sinuous, curving lines influenced by art nouveau aesthetics.
