Neoclassicism and depiction of landscapes inside a room were two tenets of the eclectic mix in Aesthetic Movement interior design. Exciting discoveries from 18th century archeological exploration quickly became inspiration as hidden artifacts from the ancient Roman city of Pompeii were revealed from beneath the volcanic ash that swallowed them centuries before.
At the time, since most travelers to Pompeii were aristocrats, this rediscovery influenced art in two ways: 1) additions of artifacts to private art collections, and 2) widespread use of their designs when they returned to their palatial homes. The Nickersons were no exception. One component of the fireplace mantle wall of the Reception Room is an exquisite Italianate mosaic that successfully brings outdoor Pompeii and neoclassic design into the Nickerson Mansion.
The bust of our Pompeii Porcelain Diffuser extends down into the liquid fragrance and wicks up beautiful scent that diffuses into the room from the surface area of the porcelain.
